Award-winning Australian film composer Nerida Tyson-Chew brings a distinct warmth and creative ingenuity to her work. Known for her collaborative approach and versatility across a range of musical disciplines, her portfolio spans feature films, television dramas, children's productions as well as numerous documentaries and wildlife films.

As a composer/orchestrator/conductor/musician and music producer, Nerida’s passion is being a sonic storyteller of feelings for film, expressing through music the unseen and unsaid, supporting the drama, the edit and subliminally underscoring dialogue.

Nerida enjoys being a part of screen music history as one of the first female composers scoring on productions in the US, and joined the elite league of female composers to score a motion picture for a major Hollywood studio when she was hired by Sony Pictures in 2003. Nerida has been recognised with numerous awards and nominations over her 25+ year career. Her Australian Screen Composer Awards include Feature Film Score of the Year, Best Music for a TV Series, Best Music for a Children's Series and Best Music for a Telemovie and Mini-Series.

Recently Nerida scored the internationally acclaimed Canadian-Australian underwater animated adventure series 'The Deep' based on Tom Taylor's Aurealis Award-winning graphic novel series, for A Stark Production, Technicolor and DHX Media. Her latest feature film, the uplifting family movie 'H is for Happiness', is currently being released after being launched at the 2020 Berlinale. Nerida's portfolio spreads across hundreds of hours of music and is in circulation in over 200 countries.

Nerida has a B.Mus. (Comp.) Hons. (University of Sydney, Australia), and a Masters of Music in Scoring for Motion Pictures and Television (University of Southern California, Los Angeles, USA). Awarded several music scholarships including the Queen Elizabeth II Silver Jubilee Award, both the BMI and the ASCAP Film-Scoring Workshops (US) and a music scoring internship with the Academy of Motion Pictures and Sciences, Nerida is a Harry Warren Scholar.

Nerida is privileged to share that she was much-loved Shirley Walker's first Composer Assistant.
